Hardware design

We have developed all manner of electronic devices ranging from front panels, fan controllers, and lighting systems through to microprocessor controlled telemetry systems and state of the art GPS recievers - some examples of these can be seen on our clients page in more detail. Some of these products we have been involved with from the initial concept stage and schematic capture, others we have been given an existing design to cost reduce, redesign for size, update with new features, or to meet approvals, or for example RoHS compliance.

Product feasability study

You have come up with an idea for a product that you think a lot of people will want to buy. You have done your market research and think that this could be a winner providing the price is right. How can you make a box that does the things that you want it to do? How much will it cost? How long will it take? Can it be done? We can answer these questions and arm you with the information you will need to take your idea further, either in our on-site factory, or elsewhere.  

Cost reduction and redesign

In a competitive world of ever-shrinking margins, where designs can be based on several generations of product, or by an original design team that have moved on, or are too busy, there are many reasons for needing to redesign an existing product. We can recommend and, if requred, implement changes in the form of alternative components, circuit modifications, or even give you the next generation of your existing product.  

Transfer to manufacturing

Taking a design from a prototype into manufacture needs close liaison with the factory. Mindsail have a 25,000 square ft highly specced factory on site. Questions like "How should the unit be assembled?", "how should it be tested?", "what components are critical?" all need to be answered. Furthermore if the design were to be changed slightly could we make the product easier to manufacture or test? We have been here many times before; can we help?  

Regulatory approvals

There are numerous approvals that a product should achieve before being offered for sale in the United Kingdom, Europe or the rest of the world. The required approvals vary depending upon the target market, type of product and the environment that the product is to be used in. We can either retrofit an existing design in order to meet approvals, or even better design the next generation of your product with the required approvals in mind. Let us use our experience and skills to guide your product through the regulations and red tape, to achieve approval for your product.  

Product styling and mechanical design

We can design not just the electronics and software required by the product but the housings and packaging as well. We maintain good relationships with award winning industrial designers who can utilise a wide range of forming techniques including injection moulding, vacuum forming, extrusions, castings as well as machining, pressing and folding.  

Software design

We design bespoke software and tools for Windows and Linux as well as database and web applications or indeed whole systems incorporating all of these. Additionally we have a very strong pedigree in embedded software and firmware, across a variety of architectures.  

Web design

We have a long history of web design from e-commerce systems to simple web pages that are both visually appealing and standards-compliant, and accessible to all, just as the web should be.
